The World University of Design is hosting a design research workshop for its faculty to address the urgent need for design education

World University of Design (WUD) is India’s premier university dedicated to educating students in the creative field. Located in the heart of the educational hub of India – Rajiv Gandhi Education City, Sonipat, Haryana – WUD is playing the role of forerunner of a revolution in the education system in India. It is the torchbearer of the rupture of stereotypical educational models and has facilitated the passage of studies relating to conception from being uniquely vocation-oriented to academic-oriented; thus offering justified diplomas (under article 2 (f) and 22 (l) of the UGC law) to its students instead of mere diplomas and certificates.

The World University of Design is set to host a series of workshops for its faculty on capacity building for design research, writing and publication, starting Tuesday, October 26, 2021. The first workshops will be facilitated by the advisors in research Dr. Himanshi Singh and Dr. Rudra Baral which will build capacity from the ground up while enhancing the valuation of research through different publications which will ultimately aid the professional academic growth of the faculty.

The field of design as a discipline has emerged in the country in recent times, thus requiring a firing in its field of research and planning to quench the ever increasing importance and demand of design as an aspect in all sectors. . This change in the design sphere has led universities to transform their design programs from simple degrees to postgraduate and doctoral degrees; World University of Design being the pioneers to usher in this change and initiate masters and doctoral programs from the very beginning of their existence.

Research is important to identify the pressures on the current generation of knowledge exerted by the shift from an object-centered mechanical paradigm to one characterized by systems; by transferring control from designers to users; and by the growing complexity of contemporary issues.

Chiseling out innovative ideas for student progression and development, Dr Sanjay Gupta (Vice Chancellor, World University of Design) remarks: “The field of design has grown rapidly over the past five years, now showing a behavioral pattern. common to the professions – a documented history, a code of ethics, an interest in methodology, a growing body of literature and a developing critique. A mature culture of design research remains to be built, however, and this effort can only be accomplished through a partnership between professionals and educators. “

The workshops are intended to be an amalgamation of informational and educational training for faculty members by helping them convert research observations and data structures into high impact publications. The sessions will prove to be an essential resource for professors as well as students to hone their skills in research and scientific writing. Young faculty members will also get information on journal selection and various parameters associated with scientific writing such as citation score, h index, i10 index, impact factor calculation, plagiarism. , etc. Practical training will also be provided on various referencing tools to prepare the desirable bibliographic sections.
