Solid Snake Writes US TV Series McGee’s Alice

American McGee’s Alice series, based on the Alice in Wonderland books by Lewis Carroll, has had a bumpy ride over the years: there are two games, Alice (2000) and Alice: Madness Returns (2011 ), with a third currently in something of a Patreon pending pattern. In an unexpected twist, it was announced today that the series will be coming to television, with David Hayter attached to write and produce (whose impressive list of credits includes X-Men and the sequel, but well sure, he will always be the voice actor Solid Snake first).

“American McGee’s Alice and Alice: Madness Returns game series is a groundbreaking reimagining of the classic tale,” Hayter told The Hollywood Reporter. “It takes you deep into the heart of a corrupt wonderland and illuminates dark corners the world has never seen. I’m beyond excited to bring this world of madness and wonder to a global audience.”

The series picks up after Alice returns through the looking glass to find her house burned down and her parents dead. Happy stuff then, and it only gets better as Alice is locked up in a mental institution before the White Rabbit takes her back to Wonderland. Which I guess won’t be so wonderful.

“David Hayter brings imagination, experience and stealth skills honed from successful assignments in film, television and video games,” American McGee said in a statement, “a unique combination that will make this adventure in Wonderland a success for the franchise and the fans. I am delighted to work with him and I know that Alice fans will welcome him with insane affection.”

Radar Pictures has acquired the rights from Electronic Arts and is partnering with Abandon Entertainment for production. McGee himself is attached to the project in an indefinite capacity and otherwise continues to work on Alice: Asylum and Oz: Adventures (based on the children’s books by L. Frank Baum).
