Shrewsbury elected officials to hold a public hearing on the future of the former Beal School

SHREWSBURY – The Shrewsbury Selectmen’s Council will hold a public hearing on the future plans of the former Maj School. Howard W. Beal Tuesday, December 7 at 7:00 p.m. in the Selectmen’s Meeting Room.

Attendees will have the opportunity to hear a presentation from developers Civico and Greenly Development and provide feedback.

Developers presented their vision for the old school in May, calling their project “Beal Commons”.

At that time, they discussed a mix of 50 to 65 apartments and commercial space split between two buildings. The list of potential commercial tenants included a gymnasium, restaurant, brasserie, and cafe and tea.

After the presentation, nearby neighbors chat with the community advocate have expressed interest preserving the open space behind Beal under city management.

Selectmen reached an agreement with Landwise LLC over the summer to help them in their negotiations with the developers.

Throughout the process, elected officials said residents will have an opportunity to provide feedback once the project becomes tangible.
