Jose Mourinho added another major honor to his trophy cabinet in the form of the Europa Conference League last season.
‘The Special One’ endured a turbulent few seasons after his spell at Manchester United ended and a forgettable tenure in charge of Tottenham, but found his stride with Roma.
In an equally tough few years for Roma, the two sides came together ahead of 2021/22, and so far it’s been a game of heaven, with Mourinho also securing Europa League football.
Of course, winning the inaugural Europa Conference League – UEFA’s third-tier European competition – is hardly a big deal to talk about, especially given Mourinho’s reputation.
But after a difficult few years, guiding a club as big as Roma to their first major European honor is an absolutely special achievement. And then, a trophy is a trophy. They all matter a lot. You try to tell a serial winner like Mourinho something different.
Mourinho’s men beat Feyenoord in a 1-0 victory in May to lift the trophy, prompting rabid celebrations and an emotional Mourinho who was somewhat overwhelmed by the triumph.

‘I Giallorossi’ and their manager have all had time to come down to earth since, however, and when they returned to pre-season training, the Portuguese coach returned with an ode to the Conference League victory, among other accomplishments.
After some online speculation among Roma fans and Italian football enthusiasts, Mourinho has confirmed that he got the tattoo, via his official Instagram.
He still hasn’t posted a picture of the finished tattoo, likely because it’s not fully healed yet. But what he did was reveal the design in full, along with a fitting tribute in the caption. Take a look for yourself below.

In the caption, Mourinho admitted it was the “joy of the Roman people” that convinced him to get inked, before going into detail on the details of the design.
Obviously, the three UEFA trophies represent the fact that he won all of them. The smaller, colorful emblems on each trophy then represent who he won the trophy with.
Manchester United and Porto are pictured in the Europa League on the left, Inter and Porto are pictured in the middle in the Champions League, and his latest triumph with Roma is pictured on the right.
Getting a tattoo of his footballing achievements looks so incredibly Mourinho of yesteryear. But lately he has been able to show a more vulnerable side, highlighted by the emotions following Roma’s Conference League victory.
He’s not everyone’s cup of tea in a world where you’re either a Mourinho fan or a Pep Guardiola fan, but whichever side of the fence you sit on, you have to admire. how much the game means to Mourinho.
Also notice that the emblems are rather small and in a tight space; perfect for adding more in the future if needed.
With Roma returning to the Europa League from next season, he may be lying on the table having his tattoo added next summer. We will have to wait and see.
