Group warns against Uyo reunion, calls for board inauguration

The Community Development Communities of the Niger Delta Oil and Gas Producing Areas (CDCNDOAGPA) have urged the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Obong Umana Okon Umana, to suspend the 5th meeting of the Niger Delta National Council (NCND ), organized by the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs and NDDC, which is scheduled to start in Uyo, capital of Akwa Ibom State, on Monday, September 12, 2022.

According to CDCNDOAGPA Board Chairman, Joseph Ambakederimo, the Minister should instead focus his efforts on securing the inauguration of an NDDC substantive board to enable them to “take office and reposition the commission to fulfill its mandate fixed for the people”. of the region. »

The group further warned that “the relative peace we currently enjoy in the region is about to be jeopardized, so we call on the organizers of this charade called the Niger Delta National Council meeting to postpone it.”

Ambakederimo urged the minister to take all necessary steps “as soon as possible to ensure that the corporate governance structure is allowed to operate. Anything less than this will be met with fierce resistance from our people who are already mobilized for any action necessary for positive change in the commission.

“The interim management device should not be allowed to remain in office for a day longer than necessary. This illegality has gone on for too long.

CDCNDOAGPA also wondered “what the NCND gathering for five days is supposed to accomplish for the region under a biased, uninspired and corrupt leadership as it is currently composed to manage the affairs of such a serious institution than the NDDC, except that management doesn’t understand what they are overseeing. »

According to the group, since the creation of the National Council of the Niger Delta (NCND), nothing has been done differently in the region.

“Who benefits from this advice, we do not know, and what they have achieved so far remains to be seen. The Niger Delta National Council, without a clear mandate, is a ploy used to squander scarce resources that would otherwise be used for the development of the attention-grabbing region,” he added.

Ambakederimo charged the NCND members and asked if the Council is “comfortable with the NDDC events as they are today? Haven’t they heard of the financial haemorrhage that has taken place over the last three years of this single acting administrator management? The theft that’s happening has ruined the period covered by the forensic audit.

“Member states are aggrieved, the commission has been run from the bedrooms of the people according to their whims and whims during this time. Doesn’t the board know that the law establishing the NDDC does not provide for interim management? Yet they agreed to meet for five days to discuss what? This jamboree must stop.

According to the group, “this conference, in our opinion, should be canceled immediately because it does not make sense at the moment, it is wasteful and it is unnecessary. What is paramount and should agitate the mind of the Honorable Minister of Niger Delta Affairs should be the inauguration of the substantive board to allow us to have a real corporate governance structure and not all these tactics of diversion to further perpetuate illegality with impunity.

CDCNDOAGPA reminded the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs that “some of us who supported him to ensure that he is brought in to help our people are beginning to resent his attitude of non- compliance with applicable laws.We call on our people to continuously resist the unseemly attitude of intruders and intruders from within and without to enable the NDDC to function properly for the benefit of all of us in the region.

Ambakederimo reiterated that “we have repeatedly mentioned that there will be disastrous consequences if the inauguration of the substantive council is further delayed. The relative peace we currently enjoy in the region is about to be jeopardized, this is why we call on the organizers of this charade called the Niger Delta National Council meeting to postpone it and focus on the inauguration of the board of directors to take office and reposition the commission to fulfill the mandate that it has settled for the people of the region. It’s not too much to ask for the people we represent. We have sensitized our people enough to take action.

The group also questioned “the rhetoric about publishing a white paper on forensic auditing before the inauguration of the substantive council as unacceptable to the people. In literal terms, this strikes us as an endless interim system that some people have come to embrace, and going further if we may ask, who’s afraid of a substantive board for the NDDC of anyway. Is the honorable minister comfortable with what he inherited in a flawed system that he cannot convince the president to change course with the plight of the people in mind? »

The Niger Delta Oil and Gas Producing Areas Community Development Communities (CDCNDOAGPA) therefore demanded “an NDDC that will work for everyone and not for the few. We want an NDDC free of all charges, scandals and baggage. This should be everyone’s expectation and not that danse macabre they come up with from time to time. The inauguration of the Council is what should be paramount at this time and that should be the goal and nothing else. We therefore call on the Honorable Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Obong Umana Okon Umana to confer with the President and do what is necessary in securing the inauguration of the NDDC Board of Directors, as soon as possible.
