Apple’s folding (or is it a flip?) iPhone has been rumored for what seems like forever, with no sign of the actual product emerging. And now it looks like a surprising new product might enter the fold first (sorry).
The foldable iPhone is unlikely to emerge before 2025, according to new reports – much later than the originally planned 2023 launch. But in the meantime, Apple may be planning a foldable MacBook – and that could be a huge deal for creatives . Don’t want to wait? Check out the best MacBook Pro deals available now.
But a MacBook is already folding, we hear you cry. According to DSCCApple is working on an all-screen foldable MacBook – meaning it could function either as a traditional laptop (with on-screen keyboard) or, when unfolded, as a full-size 20-inch monitor.
We’re in two minds about this one. On the one hand, it looks like an awesome device for creatives. A laptop-like portable device that could fold out to provide a much larger screen sounds brilliant for digital artists who like to use their device both on the go or attached to a monitor on a desk. (Check out the best 4k monitors if that’s you.)
But then again, foldables haven’t really taken off yet – who can forget Samsung’s disastrous Galaxy Fold launch? The technology had barely reached the mainstream, due to quality and cost issues. And then there’s the concept of an on-screen keyboard, which doesn’t sound great for typing more than a few hundred words.
From the iPhone 14 to the 2022 MacBook Air, if various rumors and leaks are to be believed, Apple has some pretty exciting releases up its sleeve this year. But while we’d love to see a genuinely new product hit the market (even Tesla says Apple is out of ideas), we have a feeling a foldable of any description is a few years away.
